The C*Base NITTY GRITTY: These posts were saved to the system in "chunks" of five. (This saved some space on the drives of the BBS.) I have divided each "chunk" with a line showing the "post numbers" for the following "chunk". Within the C*Base software, there was code to embed "header" information into a graphically pleasing layout, which is nearly impossible for me to reproduce. Therefore, the information is simply presented in it's "raw" format, as follows: ------------------ dividing ----- line ---------------- "SUBJECT" (USER NUMBER) (USER's NAME/Nickname) (DATE the post was made) ("Location" of the user) (TIME the post was made) (TEXT of the user's post.......) .... .... ------------------ dividing ----- line ---------------- (followed by next post) Now, on with the messages. At the bottm is a LINK to take you to the next "sub-board". There are a total of 15.
*NOTE: This sub was set for PLAIN ASCII, because there were a number of NON-Commie users on it. This is why MOST of the postings, here, are plain black and white text. Only the Commodore users posts have color.

The other classes of liecence tho DO cost about $6 - $7 or somthing (cost me $5.50 to go from Novice ‚ down to Tech+ back in 92-3) The cost takes care of paperwork cost..mailing..other operating expences‚ at no profit‚ by the way. Thats why the odd price rather than somthing like $6.95 or other such trick-prices‚ a profit-maker uses. BE SURE ya have the right 610 form if you are renewing or changing address.. ALSO...it would now seem you no longer can get a 'REPLACEMENT for LOST or MUTILATED LIECENCE' any more... New forms do not have the box to check for that! So‚ if ya lose the paper‚ thats it! yer OUT.... gotta wait up to 10 yeras and start over new.... ( That may be what I have to do now‚ as my original one is at spring street address!!! They give tests every month‚ on the first Sunday. Located right next door to the Milford Library‚ in the Fowler Bldg. It is a great club with about 200+ members‚ and plenty of activity. Every Tuesday at 8pm‚ we have a "Swap and Shop" on that frequency‚ where you can hear about people selling radio equipment‚ sometimes DIRT CHEAP! In fact‚ i was able to get many peices of gear FOR FREE! (Stuff others didn't want‚ busted‚ etc. that I fixed) Wyreball and Dries can help you with plans‚ etc‚ to BUILD your own radio! I have one‚ and it is a great thrill to contact people on a radio that you built yourself!!! (I made it from scratch‚ it wasn't a kit!) (Hit it)£i1 Also‚ DON'T let the thought of Morse Code scare you! I couldn't believe how EASY it was!!! (5 words per minute is really VERY SLOW!!!) Besides‚ if you take the test and miss the code‚ you can still use the Technician license for above 50 Mhz‚ as Dries said. Ham Radio is a ***LOT*** of fun‚ you get to meet all kinds of people‚ and make new friends‚ etc... plus it doesn't have to co$t megabucks‚ either! QRP works! 7 WyreBall 7/19/94 A.S.Hindenburg-Radio Room 1:24 pm Today close to noon‚ I got N3MTU using my 6AG7 xmit on the 'modified antron' (see library here on antron 99 used as all-bander....altho it works poorly compared to a full dipole‚ it betas using one of those bedspring ants‚ like Buterworths) He got me at 329‚ and I got him at 579 (He was doing 100 watts‚ and 1/2 drowned by noises from computers here) 6AG7 is the 1 tube 1/2 watt ‚ crystal controlled 80/40 rig I made a while back. SO...if out to just make quick hello goodbye calls‚ and wanna make peoples hair stand on end ( the less power used‚ the more higher hair stands on end at other station hearing you)‚ then go for QRP Never try to hold a long qso on qrp unless sig levels are S-9 ++ at thier end from you.. Attemptring to call CQ on qrp is very unproductive....better to 'hunt n pounce'... not only that.. 7 WyreBall 7/21/94 A.S.Hindenburg-Radio Room 12:36 pm But contact to N1KGY ( at N1OKM's) was made...both of us under 1 watt * and using ants not quite the best sort... We began on 7110kc...but it was crowded‚ so we went over to 3700kc‚ where 'KGY pinned my meter! We both were using horizontal ants.. maybe broadside to each other‚ hasard to say (but it WAS LOS‚ not sky-wave) Mine is the one shown in Library here (Antron 99 all band arrangement)‚ which is not that good a way to do it ( but I wanted to try and see just HOW rotten it would be) 'KGY & 'OKM's QTH ant is a plain 63' wire about 20' up and a water pipe gnd We both run end-fed. * 'KGY ran 1 watt even .. I ran 1/2 watt Our QTHs are aprox 2 miles apart (as crow flys) and is what I call very local.... QRP TRAP 43 Dreis 7/22/94 in the can 1:48 am N3MEQ fell into MY clutches on 7110Khz at around 11am (local) last sunday!!! what a birthday present! used the one tube/one watt wonder for it. DREIS HA! 7 WyreBall 7/22/94 N1GVA Dungeon- Radio Room 7:46 pm OTHER WORLDS maybe! If you had a way to listen from outer space‚ a lot of stuff gets out there when above roughly 5-6-7-8 mc (depends on MUF) Thats why 'they' said we ought to hera Jupitor-impact noises starting around 8mc... ======== (also was where a peak should occur too‚ but D-layer is still present on that part of the HF bands...thus why freqs like 16-18mc might prove better for outer space work..... Yer 21mc work may well have had a lot of sig go into space.....just set up a HORIZONTAL dipole...or 2 or 4 in co-co-phase....10 ft from some back plane (screening?) so it all blasts UP wards..... Used to be‚ we did not WANT to waste signal in space....but NOW... it may be the only place left to send to and get decent answers!!!!!! :) ------- 654-659 --------The band is DEAD!!!!!!1 Willie... 9/1/94 Running The Ship 8:01 am Checked antenna... I got an Ocilloscope from some guy in Maine on my way home from Canada... bought it for $15.... all it needs is a few TUBES and maybe a HV PowerSupply.... made by Hewlett Packard.... What do you think? About 1' tall 1 1/2' long and 11" wide... orange CRT.... what do you think? Worth ANYTHING? Mr. Computer Wiz Yes 12 Lessa 9/10/94 MOVING THROUGH TIME 1:35 pm It will keep you busy‚ Open it up and see how many tubes it is supposed to have‚ and whether or not they are good. Chances are it is transistorized and the only tube will be the picture tube‚ in which case‚ all you would need is to fix the power supply. Lessa Get back to us on Dragon's World. Read omni and use e-mail. THE END of "Ham Radio (Open)" NOTE: Since I never answered Wyreball's post on the BBS, I'll just comment briefly, here: What I was talking about was the BBS, not the actual airwaves... NOBODY was calling it anymore, so there was no use in paying for that second phone line. It was sad, but it had to be done. |
